This should be a very interesting and exciting opportunity - although it's unclear if i will do just home games or travel as well - talks are still on-going with those details. Regardless, I'm working on one other broadcast venture to fill in some of the off dates i will have this summer while covering the Thunder. If and when that becomes official, i will also pass that along on this blog.

Have a good one!!!

Hello Again.....

It's been a long, long time coming. I nearly went the entire month of December without updating my blog, but with good reason. This has been a life changing month, especially when you consider that i graduated from Concordia University-Wisconsin on December 13th. I can't even begin to explain what a heavy weight lifted off my shoulder finishing school is, and now i can focus all of my attention on my career. Like every young broadcaster, I'm always looking for new broadcast opportunities and sending out my resume and demo tapes, but don't feel as though I'm in a hurry to find anything new.

I'm extremely happy with my broadcast position at When We Were Young Productions/FSN Wisconsin/Charter on Demand, and my freelance position with Time Warner Cable Sports 32. Of course I'm still working Concordia athletics, and will continue to do so until at least the end of the basketball season. I feel it's only right that if i start something, i finish it as well, even though I'm no longer a Concordia student. I can't even begin to explain how much i love calling Concordia men's and women's basketball, and have been blessed to be in that position for the past seven seasons. In fact, as i type this I'm sitting on a bus somewhere in Oklahoma, en route to Georgetown, Texas, where the Falcon women's basketball team will play a tournament on December 29th-30th at Southwestern University.

As i sit on this bus, I've had a lot of time to think about how blessed i am to be doing what I'm doing, and all of the blessings i have in my life. We all get by with a little help from our friends as the Beatles once sang, and i think that rings true especially during these hectic and joyful holiday times. One question i will have to answer in the next week or so is whether or not i will return as the "Voice of the Green Bay Bullfrogs." The franchise returns to the diamond for its third season, and as much as i would love to be around for my third season too, it really is a rough schedule. I've had the opportunity to take a sneak peak at the schedule, which is due to be released to the public in the next week or so, and it's another 68-game in 75-day marathon, with a couple of lengthy road trips in the Bullfrogs future.

Another thing that will factor into my decision is the fact that the entire coaching staff is gone. I've been real lucky to deal with three amazing baseball minds the last couple of summers, but each will be unable to return this summer which is way too bad. Congratulations to former field manager Elliott Strankman, the 2007 Northwood's League Manager of the Year, who was named a scout for the Minnesota Twins. I have no doubt he will serve the Twins well, so don't be surprised if they have a strong minor league system (much like the Brewers did over the last half a decade or so) in the not too distant future. Stranks knows his stuff.

Also gone is general manager Mike Then, who took a position with the Madison Mallards, as he continues his quest to obtain a front office position in minor league baseball. Sure the Bullfrogs will replace or have replaced these amazing people with others who will do an awesome job, but I'm one who doesn't deal with wholesale changes easily. However, i have had nothing but great experiences with the fans, and they will be a big reason as to why i come back if i decide to go that route.

As far as up-coming broadcasts go, besides my Concordia responsibilities, the only other games i have on the schedule at this point are January 9th, I'll be calling the live TV broadcast of New Berlin Eisenhower at New Berlin West boy's basketball on Sports 32, and will also be calling a tape-delayed girls basketball game on Sports 32 on January 20th, between Brookfield East and Milwaukee Pius. On January 10th, the Milwaukee Wave have asked me to call their boy's high school all-star game, which will follow that nights Milwaukee Wave-Detroit Ignition game at the U.S. Cellular Arena. That game can be seen via the Milwaukee Wave website, and potentially on Sports 32 (as i type this, talks are still going on between the two).

Well it's time to run, we're about to watch film on the first team Concordia plays in Texas (Pacific Lutheran out of Tacoma, Washington). Thanks again to everyone who have sent me congratulation and best wish cards over the last couple of weeks, they really mean a lot. I'll do my best over the next few weeks to keep this blog more current. Happy New Year!!!

WHAT A WEEKEND!!!!

Please excuse me if i have a number of fragmented sentences and spell a number of words incorrectly, I'm still trying to catch my breath after a long, busy yet exciting weekend. My weekend began in Chicago, calling the 2008 Men's Soccer Horizon League Tournament Semifinals. Thank goodness i left my home at noon for a 5pm game, because i didn't arrive in the windy city until close to 3:15-3:30 because of a number of accidents and construction.

In the first semifinal, Cleveland State (#3 seed) upset the 21st ranked Butler Bulldogs (#2 seed) 1-0, behind a goal scored by Marco DiFranco in the 89th minute of a game controlled throughout by Butler. Even being down a goal, the Bulldogs nearly found the equalizer in the final seconds of regulation. For the Vikings, they qualified for the tournament championship for only the second time in program history.

Upset Friday continued in our second semifinal, as Loyola (#5 seed) knocked off the 8th ranked UIC Flames (#1 seed) 1-0, to reign supreme in the battle of Chicago schools before a fantastic crowd. Mark Halma scored the games only goal in the 22nd minute, and relied on the defense from there on out. For Loyola, they recorded a school record 11th shutout on the season, after finishing with ten shutouts in each of the past two seasons.

For the record, although i didn't call the match, Loyola went on to beat Cleveland State for the tournament championship 1-0 on Sunday. Loyola and UIC each got in to the NCAA Tournament, with Loyola visiting Northwestern, while UIC will host Dayton. Go Horizon League!

After arriving home around midnight, i quickly prepared for the WIAA Boy's High School State Volleyball Tournament. I woke-up and arrived at Wisconsin Lutheran (the new site for the state tourney) around 9:15, with my assigned semifinal match beginning at 10:30ish. Milwaukee-Marquette, the defending state champions, battled Middleton, the only team to beat the Hilltoppers this season. Both programs finished 1 and 2 respectively in the final state rankings, with a number of players on each side calling this the state championship (never mind Nicolet and New Berlin United battling in the other semi, right?)

Despite losing the first game, Milwaukee-Marquette showed why there so dang good, and took full advantage of every Middleton mistake the rest of the way, taking the match three games to one. Nicolet knocked off New Berlin United in the other semi, setting-up an all Greater Metro Conference championship match.

Following a lunch break, i returned to WLC and watched as the Hilltoppers just destroyed the Nicolet Knights three games to none. For Milwaukee-Marquette, its there fifth state title and fourth in the past five seasons, while the Knights have now seen each of its past two seasons come to a close at state against the Hilltoppers (falling to Milwaukee-Marquette 3-0 in a state quarterfinal in 2007).

Sunday i attended a great Packers victory over the Chicago Bears, and even received my first ever speeding ticket on the way up to Green Bay (go figure, the police had a plane in the sky timing me - who would have thought it?).

My weekend was extended through Monday, when my beloved Concordia University Falcon' Men's Basketball team started their season 1-0 for the first time since the 2002-2003 campaign. From start to finish, defense was the name of this CUW victory, as they defeated Dominican University 63-42. Kyle Barth (back after a two year hiatus), Ed Newton-Kemp (AKA Skip) and Cory Stark each scored 10 points in the win. Now the Falcons attempt to start 2-0 for the first time since before the turn of the century (it was so long ago that no record of the last time the team started 2-0 actually exists). Wednesday, Concordia visits Silver Lake College, from UW-Manitowoc.

Broadcast Schedule Change...........

In this business, sometimes opportunities come and go in the snap of a finger. Just as i put together my up-coming broadcast schedule for the blog, i received an email from the Horizon League asking if i'd be interested in calling the men's Horizon League Tournament semi-finals in soccer on Friday in Chicago. Of course i was scheduled to call the quarterfinals of this year's WIAA Boy's State Volleyball Tournament, but after talking with FSN Wisconsin/When We Were Young Productions, i will in fact be headed to the windy city on Friday, and will return to call the semi's and the final of the boy's volleyball tournament on Saturday. On Friday, Cleveland State and Butler will begin my evening, with kickoff slated for 5pm. Following what should be a very intense semifinal, UIC-Loyola will battle for Illinois bragging rights. Can't wait, should be an exciting opportunity on the UIC campus!
